Salmon and Sea Trout
The Tawe boasts a healthy run of Salmon each year with double figure fish being caught frequently. The Salmon enter the river from June onwards, with the bigger runs coming in September and October.
Favoured methods are fly, worm and spinner ( See club rules on permit regarding spinning). The more popular patterns include the Allys Shrimp and the Cascade. Most Salmon are caught from Ystradgynlais Down to Pontardawe.
Brown Trout Fishing.
The Brown Trout fishing on the Tawe and its Tributaries is considered to be a well kept secret! Anglers can enjoy a wide variety of fishing for both stocked and wild Brownies. The river boasts an extremely healthy fly life with hatches of upwings which are at times prolific.
The river follows the same pattern as most good trout rivers with the best of the fishing to be had in the afternoon in March, April and May with March Brown and Large Dark Olive hatches. During the Summer the best of the fishing is in the evening with the Blue Winged Olive being the main hatch.
